Description
Resistance is a response to a perceived threat. When we find that a client is not moving towards goal achievement, resistance may be the issue. With this understanding, clinicians can respond more effectively to engage clients when resistance emerges. In this training, participants will discover a wide range of practical tools, techniques and activities and strategies will be provided which can be brought into any therapeutic relationship to reduce the incidence of resistance emerging.
Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate sources of resistance (client/clinician/external).
- Recognize how resistance can be triggered or magnified unintentionally and know what to do when this happens.
- Apply client-centered approach which is non-judgmental to allow for a more constructive response to resistance.
- Use tools and techniques to turn resistance into engagement.
- Apply judgment in choosing the right tool for the right age and the right setting.
