Description
This training will focus on innovative and fun activities to help meet therapeutic goals related to resolution of the impact of grief and loss. The workshop focuses on practical, effective tools, activities and strategies specific to this population utilizing activity- and play-based approaches. Using creative, engaging and effective interventions, participants will develop and strengthen their skills to work with individuals, groups, caregivers and families.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the impact of grief and loss on children and youth at different developmental stages.
- Identify symptoms that children and youth may experience and recognize when complicated grief may be present.
- Use tools and activities appropriate to various developmental stages to assess grief and loss and support the healing process.
- Use a variety of interventions adapted to work with individuals, groups, or families.
- Develop skills to adapt grief work with very young children and build capacity of caregivers to support them.

This course is recommended for clinicians and therapists that work with children and families experiencing grief and loss.
Course Dates & Format
There are no scheduled dates for this course at this time, however in-service is available.
This is a 6-hour training. This course consists of three 2-hour interactive virtual sessions using Zoom.
Instructor: Greg Lubimiv, MSW, RSW
Greg Lubimiv is a retired Executive Director of a children’s mental health centre which provides services including day treatment, trauma assessment and treatment, and intensive services. With over 35 years of experience in children’s mental health and child welfare, Greg is considered an expert in childhood trauma, grief and loss, and vicarious trauma. He holds a Masters of Social Work from U. of T. and is a certified play therapist / supervisor with the Canadian Association of Child and Play Therapy. He has received awards and recognition for his work in children’s mental health and for services to military children and families. Greg is well known as a passionate presenter who focuses on making content concrete, practical and fun.
