Description
In this Attachment-Focused Trauma Treatments training, ISSTD Fellow and Lecturer, Niki Gomez-Perales, addresses treatment interventions for some of the most complex clients. Children and adolescents who present with “complex trauma disorders” or “developmental trauma disorders” have experienced a combination of early, multiple and chronic traumas and disrupted attachment. A large number of these children experience dissociative symptoms; some of them have identifiable dissociative disorders. Many have experienced pre-verbal trauma.

- Describe the inter-relationship between disrupted attachment and chronic trauma and the impact on neurological, emotional, and behavioural responses.
- Perform assessment of dissociative symptoms and identify the specific treatment needs of dissociative children and adolescents.
- Use phase-oriented approach to treatment with complexly traumatized clients.
