Description
The Solution Focused Brief Therapy Certificate consists of three 12-hour courses which include zoom-based learning, sharing, reflection, practice and debrief to enhance skills and improve implementation of the growing and increasingly essential clinical practices associated with the Brief Therapy model. The skills presented in each Zoom session will be explored using client cases, review of related scenarios or case consultations, and practice opportunities. The Solution Focused Brief Therapy Certificate is a series of interactive, practice-based courses which intend to create a community of practice atmosphere in which practitioners can deepen their skills, practice, and reflect.
The three courses are:
- Implementing Brief Therapy Modalities
- Maximizing the Potential of Single Session Therapy
- Using Brief and Single Session Therapy with Complex and High-Risk Issues
Certificate Requirements:
- Each 12-hour course requires a commitment of four 3-hour Zoom sessions and an additional hour per week of connection to peers and resources on a learning platform.
- To complete the Brief Therapy Certificate, you must complete all three courses and corresponding asynchronous Self-Guided Practice
- Due to the interactive, practice-based, peer sharing, and collaborative learning model employed throughout the Solution Focused Brief Therapy Certificate, none of the courses will have equivalency with any other completed trainings.

Instructor: Alesya Courtnage, MA, RP, CCC
Alesya received a Masters of Arts degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA in 2001 and has been practicing as a psychotherapist in different mental health settings ever since. In 2008 Alesya attended her first workshop in the Solution Focused Approach and fell in love with the hope, optimism and respect that drives this way of working with others. Currently, Ontario is the epicentre of mental-health walk-in clinics and her clinical work in this area inspired Alesya to become interested in the potential of Single Session Therapy both as a service delivery model and as an effective clinical intervention. This passion has led her to both lead and attend trainings in Single Session Therapy around the world. She has provided training to hundreds of front-line staff and continues to act as a consultant to many agencies across Canada. Alesya is currently completing a PhD in Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University. Her area of research is connected to risk management and the integration of brief and traditional service delivery models.
